Its so crazy how different people think. We talk about one think and there are a hundred opinions
and perceptions on that exact same thing. As far as my experience goes whenever I’ve felt
disconnected from society, I just try to recall how different a person’s perception is from mine and
that makes me realise that I live in a place where everyone has their own life, their own set of
experiences and memories that define how they think and see things. Is perception something that
is defined by the environment we grow in or who we truly are? To what level is a person’s
personality defined by their surroundings? And to what extent is it their true self? Some questions
will never be answered no matter what amount of research tries to prove it otherwise.
But think about it… you might be in the worst possible environment, your friends might be doing
drugs, your parents might be into multiple affairs, your house might be breaking down, your sibling
ran away, your significant other cheated on you, your kids hate you, you lost your job. But all this
hurts… why does it hurt? Because you subconsciously know it is not supposed to be this way. That
this is not right. You do not enjoy being broken or abandoned or cheated on because the true nature
of human is the be at peace and harmony. And we get agitated only when things are not that way.
When things are not calm, when things are not in harmony is when we disconnect with ourselves.
To know to be calm in chaos is whole different level of self – control. To know to do the right thing when everyone around you pushes you to go to the other extreme is another kind of bravery.
When we think about such things is when the though arises in my mind. Maybe it’s not entirely the
environment that defines our perception towards how we see things. Maybe its in our true nature as
we are born. Maybe its in the mindset we develop unknowingly over a period which can be
influenced by our surroundings. Maybe it’s how we are taught as kids. Maybe these are our religious
beliefs. Maybe…
There are so many questions so many possibilities. But better many left unanswered. There is such
beauty in the mystery of the unknown. Because you get to ask more questions.
Knowing about perceptions and how people think, understand, behave lets you have reasons as to
why you behave a certain way. A liar might be used to lying. That doesn’t make them bad. They are
used to a habit which is wrong. I mean even smokers know smoking kills, yet they do it. They have
just made it a habit. Liars lie for 3 most common reasons:
1) they know what they did is wrong,
2) they don’t want to hurt others by telling the truth,
3) they are scared to lie because the reaction of
the other person is uncertain. Now if you look at all the three reasons, none of them actually justify
why they lie:
1) if it is wrong, why lie? Just say the truth and do the right thing.
2) Hurting people by telling the truth is a better option than them figuring out that you lied which would apparently hurt more than the truth.
3) Being scared and lying you are also missing out on how compassionate the other person can be.
In this process you fail to understand not only yourself but also the other
person you are lying to.
Yet people do it.
There are some things in human nature that just take forever to change especially with age it is
harder for someone to change how they perceive things. In school kids are taught fixed aspects.
They are not taught how to achieve middle grounds. Reasons like these are the ones that makes it
hard for the society to adapt to new societal changes. The world has evolved so much and still
people follow the caste system. Why? Because with age people are taught that maturity is having
fixed values and morals. That really is not entirely true. It is important to have strong values and
morals, but it is equally important to be versatile to adapt. The society will never grow if the
perception on certain major aspects remains the same. If observed the perception of certain things
is standard among the people within that cult. The people you are surrounded will define your
values for you if you don’t do it for yourself. It is important for us humans to sit down and think what values and morals apply to our personality as an individual. Not to society but to me as an individual.
But yes, it is important to take in the aspects of the society because that is where we live. We live
among people. So it is important to consider but at the same time important to decided how you
want to perceive things keeping in my that the natural state of a human being is peace, love and joy.
